Chapter 1: Fertility and infertilityInfertility is diagnosed when a couple attempting pregnancy is unsuccessful for one year or more. This condition can be extremely stressful for both partners. Specialized care is warranted after one year of unsuccessful trying (in women over 35 years already after six months!). Workup and treatment of infertile couples are a cornerstone of my activity, including assisted reproductive technologies like IVF and ICSI (see Overview of IVF and ICSI).
