Examination of the Fallopian tubes by contrast ultrasoundDescription: The fallopian tubes can be visualized with a special office-based ultrasound with contrast media (Levovist®). A solution of milk sugar is injected into the uterine cavity which produces a bright echo in the ultrasound image. The doctor as well as his patient can watch the filling of the fallopian tubes on the video monitor. No anesthesia is necessary for this modern method. Mild menstrual-like cramps and rarely some nausea can occur. The examination is considered normal if we could see a clear flow through both tubes.
