Intracytoplasmic sperm injection ICSIDescription: From the left-hand side, the holding pipette holds the egg with gentle suction, while the injection pipette (with an internal diameter of just 0.005 mm!) perforates the rigid outer layer (Zona pellucida) and the cell membrane of the egg. A single sperm cell is deposited in the cellular fluid (cytoplasm). This action is repeated for every egg that has been aspirated from the ovaries of the women a couple of hours before.
